Rottweilers

Rottweiler Dogs

Rottweilers are tough, sturdy and muscular dogs. And these dogs are aware of their strength. They have a lot of confidence and are very intelligent, when properly trained of course. They can be loving and caring pets that are very loyal and easy-going.

The Look

Rottweilers have a medium-sized, powerful form with dense, glossy coats. They have wide heads with a round head and a straight snout. They have dark, almond-shaped eyes which have a friendly and loving look. Rottweilers have triangular ears that hang forward. They have strong necks and backs and have docked tails. Their coats usually come in black with rusty patches. Rottweilers have a look that suggests agility, bravery and strength.

What They Are Like to Live With

This breed has a lot of energy and loves playing catch with their owners. They love to accompany you for a run or taking a hike in the woods. They love to be the centre of attention and need companionship from their owners. Without enough attention, they can get bored and become destructive around the house. A neglected Rottweiler can become quite troublesome, but provide them with love and activity and they will be happy and healthy.

A properly trained Rottweiler can be a loyal friend to a child, and they make perfect guard dogs. Rottweilers make excellent watch dogs, one look at a fierce looking Rottweiler will often be enough to keep trespassers away. All the dog has to do is simply sit there!

Things You Should Know

Before getting a Rottweiler, you should take into account their massive size and somewhat changeable temperament. Rottweilers need a firm hand to guide them, this will earn their respect. Firm but fair is the key when training a Rottweiler. Every so often a Rottweiler may challenge your authority, so make sure to keep up with obedience training. Rottweilers are loyal dogs who are eager to please so they respond very well to commands.

The Rottweiler is descended from herding dogs. This means that they love to be challenged and given tasks that stimulate them both physically and mentally. You can keep your Rottweiler happy with agility tasks and some obedience tasks as well. These dogs need regular exercise such as walks, just keep them on a leash so they don’t run off. Rottweilers are loving dogs but have a tendency to be aggressive with some other dogs to show their dominance.
A healthy Rottweiler can live as long as 12 years. Common health issues include hip dysplasia and eye problems. Their short coats are easy to care for and Rottweilers don’t shed too much.
