Ticks and Fleas

As soon as spring arrives and the sun comes out, it’s time to think about tick protection. These arachnids become active and start looking for a host. A dog or cat happily jumping through the grass is exactly what they are looking for. Since ticks can transmit serious diseases like Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Babesiosis, it’s crucial to protect your puppy and kitten.
If you notice your pet scratching a lot or see inflamed skin, it could be a sign of fleas. To confirm, comb the coat with a special flea comb. If black dots come loose and turn into black-red spots when shaken out on damp kitchen paper, these are flea excrements.
Regular Checks for Your Dog and Cat
Even if your dog or cat has been treated with a spot-on or wears a tick collar, you should check your pet regularly. If a tick attaches itself, it must be carefully removed immediately with a tick tweezer or card without crushing it. Ticks take hours to transmit diseases, so quick intervention is essential.
