Whether it’s a cushion for the window sill, a cushion for the cat’s cave or a scratching post cushion – every cat needs a relaxed place for dozing and observing. You can tell whether your cat accepts the cushion by the fact that it is happily kneading it. This behaviour has various explanations. On the one hand, it is assumed that the kneading is due to the milk need of the cats as kittens, with which they work on the mother’s abdomen during the suckling process to increase the milk flow. On the other hand, there are special glands on the paw balls that release scents. Cats mark their territory with these scents. If the cat is kneading her pillow, it is very likely marking this area for herself. Last but not least, the theory is represented that house cats prepare their bed in this way. In nature, the cats use their paws to flatten the grass to set up their bed.
