A pond net should always be used if too many contaminants have accumulated. This is because the nutrient concentration in the water increases due to entries such as leaves and dead water plants. This in turn promotes the growth of algae. When these die off, valuable oxygen is removed from the pond water. Thorough cleaning with a net is therefore particularly recommended when leaves fall in the autumn. Then it is optimally prepared for the winter time.
However, it is also advisable to remove contaminants with the net at regular intervals in order to control the nutrient content. Because if this is too high, duckweed spreads very quickly. This then covers large parts of the water surface, leaving little light for underwater plants that are dependent on it. Tip: Make sure that at least two thirds of the pond surface is uncovered.

If you want to buy a pond net, it is recommended to take a look at the details beforehand. If it is only to be used to remove leaves from the water, a model with a coarse mesh is sufficient. In order to fish even smaller plants such as duckweed or algae, nets with a fine mesh are better. However, a telescopic handle bar made of aluminium is recommended in any case. With this, you can reach areas a little further away from the edge. It is also light, robust and resistant to rust. A non-slip handle makes handling even easier.
