Automatic feeder for aquariums – reliable feeding for decorative fish
In addition to an optimally adjusted environment, decorative fish and other aquarium dwellers need food – preferably at the same time of day. Regular feeding contributes to a stable daily rhythm for the animals and ensures a balance. If you are not able to feed the fish every day as an aquarium owner, an automatic feeder for the aquarium is the ideal solution: the device reliably takes care of your animals.
Why do I need an automatic aquarium feeder?
Our daily lives are often less stable than those of pets. If you work in shifts or are occasionally out of the office for a few days in a row, you cannot guarantee your decorative fish will be fed on time. Food dispensers for the aquarium provide a remedy: fish food is poured into these appliances and a control system is programmed that releases a certain amount of fish food into the water at the specified times. In this way, the animals reliably get their food at the usual time, even when you’re away.
Which types of feed can be used in automatic aquarium feeders?
Depending on the model, an automatic fish feeder is suitable for one or even several different types of feed:
- Flake lining
- Feed tablets
- FD (freeze dry/freeze dried) feed
- Granulate feed
- Pellets
- Fish food sticks
For hygiene reasons, frozen or live food cannot be administered via the aquarium’s automatic feeder. In case of doubt, do not fill the automatic feeder too much: if much food residue remain in the water, this reduces the quality of the water.
What do you need to know about aquarium fish feeders?
The most important criterion for selecting a feeder is its compatibility with the aquarium cover. Many manufacturers design their cover hoods in such a way that the installation of a fish feeder of the same brand is possible as a module. For open aquariums, a panel holder is required to secure the fish feeder to the outside of the tank. Aquarium feeders generally function reliably for months on batteries and can be easily programmed. In addition to the technical equipment, it is important that the storage container is actively ventilated so that the food does not clump. Depending on the duration of your absence, make sure that the feeder has a sufficiently large magazine, from which respective rations are released. Alternatively, there are models with individual bowls into which feed portions are filled. It should be possible to open the chutes easily for cleaning. There are feeders that can be filled for almost a whole month. In our online shop you will find various fish feed machines from Hagen, Eheim and Juwel.
