Complete aquarium set: all you need to get started with fishkeeping
A complete aquarium set offers newcomers an optimal start in fishkeeping. An aquarium set includes all the equipment you need to get started with the underwater world. Accessories such as lighting, heating and filters are perfectly adapted to the tank size. That way you can concentrate entirely on building your beginner aquarium and its first residents.
What does a complete aquarium set contain?
A complete set generally consists of the glass tank itself, a matching cover with lighting, an interior filter, a heater tailored to the tank size and a thermometer for monitoring the water temperature. You will often find a complete aquarium with other accessories such as a water treatment agent, water quality testing items and fish food. For your new aquarium, you also need a lot of accessories, including flooring, aquatic plants, decorative elements such as roots and hideaways for your decorative fish, prawns and crabs.
When are the first fish allowed to move in?
In an aquarium that has been running for a long time, useful bacteria have formed in the tank and filters that help reduce pollutants. By contrast, these bacteria are still missing in a newly furnished complete aquarium set. As an aquarium newcomer, you also do not have the option of providing the necessary bacteria via used filter media. In freshly equipped tanks, there is inevitably a dangerous increase in nitrite, which can mean death for fish. Therefore, let your tank acclimate for at least three weeks with the equipment running before you introduce animals. During this time, perform water tests at intervals of seven to ten days, especially for nitrite. Bacterial cultures for the tank are also available on the market. Caution is also advised after the start-up time: test the water values again before the introduction of residents. Observe the animals closely during the first few weeks and continue to regularly check the water quality.
Is a complete aquarium set sufficient?
A complete set for beginners gives an initial insight into the fascinating underwater world. If you would like to have a larger tank later on, the complete aquarium set is still useful as a quarantine tank or breeding tank.
