For most animals, there is no need for additional eye and ear care. However, both should be continuously checked for abnormal changes and if required, treated by a vet. Liquids should not be put into the eyes or ears without veterinary advice.
Some breeds, for example, are born with hair in their inner ear, which must be removed regularly by a specialist. Fur must also not impair vision. Eyes can be cleaned carefully with a soft cloth to remove dirt.

Long-haired rabbit breeds require good fur care. “Dead” undercoat must be removed, eyes and nose must be free. It’s also important to ensure that, around their bottom, faeces-covered fur doesn’t attract flies! If another rabbit grooms a long-haired partner animal, so-called bezoars often occur – these are balls of fur that the grooming animals swallow – these can be life-threatening as they block the very narrow stomach outlet! Therefore, it may also be necessary to shave/trim a long-haired pet.

Encourage the natural abrasion of the claws! Dogs that romp around outside a lot, cats with scratching posts and trees, and outdoor cats in any case naturally wear down their claws. The same applies to small mammals and birds – plenty of exercise, different floor coverings and digging opportunities as well as natural wooden perches in different diameters and degrees of hardness for birds avoid excessive claw growth. For example, if the claws are too long, it is always important to optimise the posture – but it may of course be necessary to have the claws trimmed by a vet first.
