During installation and partial water change, the aquarium requires sufficient active bacteria to biologically clean the aquarium and quickly break down pollutants. Bacterial starter cultures contain highly active, useful bacteria that break down ammonium/ammonia and nitrite in the water. At the same time, fish excretion and other waste is broken down.
